The first presidential election in South Korea took place on July 20, 1948, after the elections to the Constitutional Assembly on May 10, 1948. The elections were indirect, the president was elected by the Constitutional Assembly of 200 electors. Lee Seung Man won the presidential election, for whom 180 out of 196 votes were cast [1] . An important role in the election outcome was played by the discussion between Lee Seung Man and Kim Gu on the issue of holding independent elections in the south of the country. Kim Gu rejected the idea of independent elections, and together with his supporters left the National Alliance for the Quick Independence of Korea, forming his own party, Independence of Korea [2] , but received only 13 votes of the presidential electors [2] .
