Biography
Born in a poor family in the village. Zhukovo, Mstislavsky district, Mogilev province [1] (now in the Monastyrschy region of the Smolensk region) [2] . In 1914 he graduated from the Mstislavl Theological School, in 1917 - the Mogilev Theological Seminary [1] .
In March 1919 he was admitted to membership in the RCP (b) , and in May of the same year he volunteered to leave for civil war . Twice wounded. Then - the personnel officer of the Red Army .
In 1927 he was sent to intelligence courses at the General Staff of the Red Army. After completing the courses, he commanded the fortified areas in the Far East , served as chief of staff of the cavalry division, inspector of infantry of the district. For the excellent performance of their duties, he was awarded the Certificate of Merit and the Order of the Red Star.
Member of the Great Patriotic War. From the first days of the war, Colonel Timofey Volkovich worked in the USSR State Committee for Defense .
On August 15, 1941, he was appointed to the post of commander of the 402nd Azerbaijani rifle division , a military unit that was formed on the territory of the Azerbaijan SSR . From October 1941 to April 1942 , after the Soviet-British and Soviet-Iranian agreements on the supply of armaments "by the southern route" in order to ensure the safety of transport, the division participated in the invasion of Iran .
While in Iran, Timofey Volkovich alternately commanded military units: from August 10, 1942 to May 18, 1943, he headed the 75th Infantry Division (1st formation) , and from June 5 to November 12, 1943 - Commander of the 261st Infantry Division .
In October 1943, by order of the Supreme Commander, the 8th Guards Rifle Brigade was disbanded and on October 7, the 117th Guards Rifle Division was formed on the basis of the 8th Guards Rifle Brigade , the 81st Naval Rifle Brigade . The commander of the new division was Colonel L. V. Kosonogov , who later died during the battle on November 17, 1943 (on the day he was given the rank of major general). In his place on December 22, 1943, Colonel Timofey Ivanovich Volkovich was appointed.
Under the command of Timofey Volkovich, the 117th Guards Rifle Division during the Zhytomyr-Berdichev operation took direct part in the liberation of Berdichev, for which she was given the name Berdichevskaya by order of the Supreme Commander. Then the division took part in the Proskurov-Chernivtsi , Lvov-Sandomierz , Sandomierz-Silesia , Lower-Silesia and Berlin operations, ended the war with the Prague operation , took part in the liberation of the cities of Plasi and Pilsen ( Czechoslovakia ). After the end of World War II, the 117th Guards Rifle Division arrived at its permanent location in Berdychiv.
On April 20, 1945, Colonel Timofey Volkovich was given the rank of Major General. After the war, Major General T. I. Volkovich continued to command this division as part of the Lviv Military District in Berdychiv. From March 1946 to January 24, 1947 he was at the Higher Attestation Commission at the Higher Military Academy. KE Voroshilov, then was seconded to the Military Academy. M.V. Frunze for use in teaching work. In April 1948, he was appointed head of the Shuisky Infantry School. On March 22, 1950, he was sent by the military adviser to the Academy of the Bulgarian People’s Army, but in the same month he fell seriously ill and did not leave for a business trip, and after recovering from March 1951 he again headed the Shuya Infantry School. 17.7.1956, dismissed due to illness [3]
