Musically, the album was the group’s transition from the glam rock of the two previous albums to synth-pop music. The group also abandoned the glam image and last appeared in this form at a concert in April 1979 in Amstredam [6] . In June, recording of a new album began . Early material for him was discarded, including the track European Son , which in September 1981 was released on Assemblage. The band then turned to Roxy Music producer John Punter, but he was busy at the time, and then the band began recording with Simon Napier Bell. Later, Punter worked closely with Japan and participated in the creation of two more of her albums. Quiet Life ranked No. 53 on the UK chart [7] and was Japan 's last studio album to release Ariola Hansa . The title track was released as a single on August 19, 1979, and its 1981 re-release took 19th place in the UK Singles Chart [8] . The album is mentioned in the almanac " 1001 album, which is worth listening to before you die " ( born 1001 Albums You Must Hear Before You Die ) [9] .

Quiet Life also became the first album where lead singer David Silvian changed his vocal style, switching to baritone , which later became one of the hallmarks of the group.
