Biography

Mo Willems began his career as an author and animator in the long-running series Sesame Street , for which he received 6 Emmy awards, after which he created his own series Sheep in the Big City and The Eccentric Family ( The Off-Beats).

Soon, Mo became the chief writer on Cartoon Network , where he wrote the show The Secret Team of Our Yard ( Codename: Kids Next Door ). At this time, Mo Willems began to create children's books. The debut was the story “Don't Let the Pigeon Drive the Bus!”, Which instantly became a super bestseller (New York Times Bestseller). For this book, Moe received his first literary prize (Caldecott Honor in 2004). The following year, the book appeared Zainka (Knuffle Bunny: a Cautionary Tale), which received the same prize. The continuation of the story “Also Zainka” (Knuffle Bunny Too: a Case of Mistaken Identity) again brought Mo the same prestigious award for children's illustrators in 2008.

Soon, Mo began working on a series of Elephant and Piggie, which brought four more prestigious awards, namely Theodor Suess Geisel Meda Medals (2008 and 2009).

Mo's drawings, wire sculptures, and sculputre have exhibited in numerous galleries and museums across the nation and his graphic story about his family experiences during 9-11 for DC comics resides in the Library of Congress' permanent collection.

Mo also wrote the libretto for the musical Zainka (Knuffle Bunny: A Cautionary Musical).

The monumental sculpture of The Red Elephant, created by Mo, can be seen in the courtyard of the Eric Carle Museum of Picture Book Art.
