UPI Student Basketball Player of the Year

UPI College Basketball Player of the Year is the annual basketball award awarded to the best basketball player of the first division of the NCAA according to the results of voting among sports observers. The award was established by United Press, an American news agency, and was first presented to Tom Gole of La Salle University in the 1954/55 season. It constantly competed with the Associated Press , but with the advent of television news, its popularity gradually faded away, and the last time the winner of the prize was Ray Allen from the University of Connecticut in the 1995/96 season.
