Biography

Born and raised in the village of Milcha near Gomel ( Belarus ) in the family of a factory worker and a kindergarten cook. Grandmother conveyed love to the song to 5-year-old Sergey. He graduated from a music school in the balalaika class, studied at the Gomel Music College named after N.F. Sokolovsky. He did not serve in the army, by his own admission, because of problems with stuttering [2] . He worked in amateur art in Gomel , played dancing, sang in the VIA "We, You and Guitars" and "Voices of Polesye" [3] . Laureate of city and republican competitions. In 1974, the creators of the Kuibyshev ensemble " Blue Bird " brothers Mikhail and Robert Bolotny invited a young gifted performer to the team. Having a unique timbre of Drozdov’s voice (lead vocals, guitar, bass) was the most characteristic vocalist of the ensemble and gave the Blue Bird a vivid and memorable sound [4] .

After marriage in 1977, he moved to his wife in Tambov, where he lived the rest of his life. Always dreamed of a solo career. Due to the lack of television broadcasts in the Soviet era, the public knew little in Drozdov’s face, the name of the soloist in television broadcasts was not called then [5] .

As part of the ensemble recorded more than 80% of the entire repertoire. 46 songs performed solo [4] .

In the 1970-1980s, the group gathered in the cities of three stadiums per day [6] .

As part of a popular group in the USSR, Drozdov performed romantic-love hits, among them “Where the Maple Noises ...” (a song to the music of Yuri Akulov and the words of Leonid Shishko in 1964 was first performed by Lyudmila Zykina , but her version did not become popular [7 ] ), “Mom’s record”, “I’m coming to meet you”, “At the crossroads”, “So what are you!”, “Bitter!” And many others that became widely known and recognizable in the USSR thanks to the unique voice of Drozdov [6] .

In 1984 he graduated in absentia from the Tambov branch of the Moscow State Institute of Culture with a degree in conductor and orchestra.

In 1991, after returning from touring the USA, the ensemble began to take a long break, the artists were no longer going to the previous line-up [1] . He tried to start a solo career [8] .

In 1999, he made his first attempt to revive the creative team - together with the new artistic director Alexei Komarov, with the consent and approval of one of the founders of the ensemble Robert Bolotny. However, in 2002, Sergey left the group in order to devote himself to a solo career [8] .

In 2002, he founded the group “The Blue Bird of Sergey Drozdov”. The group has been touring with varying success throughout the country and abroad (Belarus, Ukraine, Germany). From the “golden” composition of the ensemble, Drozdov periodically attracted the soloist Sergei Levkin (1951-2006) [9] and the permanent guitarist Vladimir Gaponov. On October 30, 2006, a concert “Golden Voices of the Blue Bird” was held in St. Petersburg: Sergey Drozdov, Sergey Lyovkin, Svetlana Lazareva . Five days after the concert, Levkin passed away.

In 2010-2011, Drozdov recorded 15 new songs, which he composed [6] .

He performed with tours in more than 40 countries of the world - from Bulgaria to Cambodia and Seychelles [8] .
