Creativity
The works of N.V. Shadrunov are largely autobiographical. The story “The Bear” and a number of stories are dedicated to his childhood in the Vologda Oblast. The cycle of stories “Ramboviana” dedicated to Mr. Lomonosov (razg. Rambov from the Izhora name of Mr. Lomonosov - Rampov) is most famous. His characters are simple hard workers who are not averse to drinking and deceiving the other, but at the same time provoking an irresistible sympathy for themselves with their inner honesty, true "nationality" of characters. N. Shadrunov reflected in his works the lives of people whom it is not customary to make heroes in literature (Rambov's bullies Sega and Petrik, the local fool Genka the machine gunner, etc.), showed the plain life of the Soviet port city of the 1960s and 1980s. The everyday plots of stories, the sincerity of the narrative, the naturalness of the impeccable style make N.V. Shadrunov’s work similar in spirit to the works of V. M. Shukshin and V. G. Rasputin .
Criticism and reviews
His strength lies in absolute truthfulness. We say that there are no successors to Shukshin, Astafyev, Rasputin - here we have a successor! .. In the person of Shadrunov we have a writer not only gifted (which is not uncommon), but also not adaptable, truthful organically - and in education: he grew up in an environment where the lie is not paid. He is always truthful, not "by permission."
- Valery Popov [4]
Shadrunov’s stories, continuing the good traditions of fabulous prose, written by the strong and amazingly beautiful Russian language, which is quite rare in modern prose ...
