List of US Foreign Awards

Foreign military unit awards ( Presidential Unit Citation ) are collective awards to American military units and units [1] similar to American collective awards, which are presented by representatives of other countries. All these awards have an American counterpart [2] .

The rules for wearing these awards are defined in AR 672-5-1, DA 672-1 and 672-3. Military awards received by military units are entitled to be worn in the form of accelerants. Men wear an axelette near the left shoulder, and women wear the right shoulder [2] .

Basically, several United States forces were awarded for their actions during and after World War II . The award was created in 1946 and retroactively awarded to all military personnel who served in the Philippine Islands or participated in their liberation during World War II. The second time the award was given to the Philippine and American units during natural disasters that occurred in the Philippines from August 1 to December 15, 1970 and from July 21 to August 15, 1972.

In February 2005, the President of the Philippines, Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo, awarded special forces whose activities are aimed at reducing the threat of terrorism, assisting in the training of troops, social and economic activities and civil engineering in Basilan and Zamboanga .

Gratitude of the President of the Republic of KoreaEnglish Republic of Korea Presidential Unit Citation Width 9.5 mm, length 35 mm.  The Republic of KoreaThis award is presented by the South Korean government to foreign military units. The last time a large number of these awards were presented during the Korean War , then several American, British and other military units were awarded. By order of the South Korean government, retroactively, all units of the US Army that were located on the Korean Peninsula between 1950 and 1954 were awarded the right to wear this award.
Thanks from the President of VietnamEnglish Vietnam Presidential Unit Citation Width 9.5 mm, length 35 mm.  South vietnamThis award is given by the Government of South Vietnam to all members of the Indo-China Military Assistance Advisory Group and other units that participated in humanitarian assistance during August and September 1954. The bar shows three vertical red stripes on a golden yellow background in a gold frame. The award is now considered invalid, as a country like South Vietnam no longer exists.
Vietnam Courage CrossEnglish Republic of Vietnam Gallantry Cross Unit Citation  Width 9.5 mm, length 35 mm.  South vietnamThe South Vietnam Military Award, established in August 1950, is awarded to any military man who has accomplished a feat or displayed heroic behavior in battles with enemy forces. The award was issued to all allied nations that provided military support to South Vietnam from March 1, 1961 until the fall of Saigon . The medal has become one of the most frequently awarded Vietnamese rewards for foreigners.

There are 4 degrees of the order, the badges of which are added to the main medal:

  • with a palm leaf (personal reward) (announced in the order for the army)
  • with a gold star (corps order) (announced in the corps order)
  • with a silver star (division order) (announced in the division order)
  • with a bronze star (regiment or brigade) (announced in the order for the regiment)

This award can also be awarded to the whole unit, which distinguishes this award from others. US military personnel are allowed to accept this award from March 1968. In 1974, Army General Order No. 8 allowed each military unit serving under the military assistance command of Vietnam from 1961 to 1974 to accept this award.

Appreciation of the President of Vietnam for Civil ActionsEnglish Republic of Vietnam Civil Actions Unit Citation  Width 9.5 mm, length 35 mm.  South vietnamThe civilian award is given by the government of South Vietnam, was created in 1964, and can be awarded to any military man for outstanding civil service to the state or people in the civil service. The medal has two classes, the first class is for officers, the second for other personnel. Two awards of different classes cannot be worn.
