Jessica Dominique Marais ( born Jessica Dominique Marais ; born January 29, 1985 ) is an Australian model, theater and film actress. She became known for her role in the series Packed to the Rafters . Also known for her role as Mord-Sith Denna in the television series Legend of the Seeker .

Early life

Born January 29, 1985 in South Africa . In childhood, Jessica's family often moved. Jessica lived in Canada , New Zealand , until at age 9 she moved to Australia for permanent residence . Six months after arriving in Australia, Mare's father (Tony Mare) died of a heart attack. All responsibility for Mare and her sister Klara fell on the shoulders of her mother - Karen [1] . She studied at John XXIII College for about a year, later since 1995 she studied at the English school for girls at St Hilda's Anglican School , which she graduated in 2002 . In 2007 she graduated from the National Institute of Dramatic Art in Sydney [2] . In May 2014, she admitted that from the age of 12 she suffers from bipolar mental disorder [3] [4] .

Career

While studying at NIDA , Mare got her first serious role as Rachel Reifter in the Packed to the Rafters television show [5] . The role brought unexpected success and instant recognition [6] . Mare's first film was the Australian drama Two Fists, One Heart, 2008 . In the film, she played Kate, a meeting with which is a turning point in the fate of the protagonist - the famous boxer Anthony Argo. Mare’s next work was the series The Legend of the Seeker , based on the series of books Sword of Truth by the American writer Terry Goodkind . Jessica played the role of Denna - the female Mord Sith warrior. Mare’s first appearance was in the eighth episode of the first season , after which she starred in several more episodes of the first and second seasons of the series [2] . In 2010, Mare takes part in the filming of the thriller Needle.

After filming for Packed to the Rafters (the last episode with Jessica in a cameo role was released on March 20, 2012 ), Mare moves to Los Angeles to pursue a career in Hollywood. Then she goes to Miami to star in eight episodes of the first season of the US- made drama “The Magic City ” as Lily Diamond [7] . The premiere took place on April 6, 2012. On March 20, 2012, Starz extended the series for the second season [8] , in which Jessica began shooting shortly after the birth of her daughter [9] . The premiere took place on June 14, 2013 [10] . On July 2, 2013, the final episode of the series Packed to the Rafters was aired , where Mare returned to her role.

On May 9, 2012, Mare gave birth to a daughter, whom she named Scout (full name is Scout Edie Stuart) [9] [23] . In May 2015, the actors broke up without formalizing their relationship officially [27] .
