History

On January 21, 1482, the Portuguese established the following fortresses in the Gulf of Guinea:

  • Fort San Jorge da Mina di Oru (modern Elmina ). Years of existence: January 21, 1482 - August 28 - 29, 1637 ; then became the capital.
  • Fort Santo Antonio di Ashim (modern Axim ). Years of existence: 1486 - 1642 .
  • Fort San Francisco Chavius ​​(modern Osu (business district of Acre )). Years of existence: 1640-1642.
  • Fort San Sebastian (modern Shama ). Years of existence: 1526-1637.

On August 29, 1637, the Dutch occupied Fort San Jorge da Minu. On January 9, 1642, the entire colony was transferred to the Dutch, thereby becoming part of the Dutch Gold Coast .
