Rite
Early in the morning on Irrigation Monday, the guys go outside with a junk. They are looking for girls who are hiding or pretending to want to hide. Guys lash girls with a whip of young twigs of willow (birch, juniper), decorated with ribbons at the end. Girls are bought off with puppies or Easter eggs (nowadays and chocolate eggs) and other treats [2] .
The word “blot” probably came from the word rejuvenate and beating the girls supposedly gives them the freshness, flexibility and health of young willow branches.
A wrapper is also called a gift of colored Easter eggs .
In the Czech Republic and Slovakia, the custom of whipping occurs during Easter caroling . The lash is made of 6-12 twisted twigs of willow, with which the boys go caroling and whipping girls from all around. Beating on the buttocks was accompanied by the singing of special songs. The girl during the ceremony had the right to pour a guy from a bucket.
In the Eastern Slavs, beaten with willow twigs more often occurs at night after Lazarus Saturday or early in the morning on Palm Sunday [3] .
