Pingdu County ( Chinese trad. 屏東 縣 , pinyin : Píngdōng xiàn ) is one of the counties of the Taiwan Province of the Republic of China .

Content
Etymology
The name of the county means "to the east of the Panpinshan Mountains (半») ".
Geography
The county is located in the southern part of the island of Taiwan . On the territory of the county is Cape Eluanbi (the southernmost point of Taiwan).
Population
In 2012, 859 thousand people lived in the county. In addition to representatives of the Khokhlo and Hakka , the Paivan and Ruqi people live here.
History
In the state of the Zheng family, this land was part of the Wannian Province (万年 州). In 1664, Zheng Jing sent here the first settlers from Guangdong Province . After the conquest of Taiwan by the troops of the Qing Dynasty, these lands became part of Fenshan County (凤山县). From 1684, immigrants from Fujian province began to arrive here.
In 1895, Taiwan was transferred to Japan , and the Japanese established their system of administrative-territorial division.
After Japan’s capitulation in 1945, Taiwan was returned to the jurisdiction of China. In 1950 there was a reform of the administrative-territorial division.
