Biography
Joseph Reinach was born in 1856 into a Jewish family. After his death, Gambetta became director of the newspaper République Française. From the very beginning he was an opportunist , an opponent of socialism in any form, a free trader , a supporter of a “moderate” republic. As a journalist, he discovered outstanding polemical abilities and gained significant influence on the public and political circles [4] .
In 1887, Joseph Reinach made a decisive opponent of boulangerism , which he delivered, with various exposures, several strong blows; for this controversy, he had to fight duel several times, including with Deruleled .
In 1889-1898 he was a member of the Chamber of Deputies. Until 1906, J. Reinach conducted vigorous press campaigns for revising the Dreyfus case , in which its significance is only slightly inferior to that of Jaures and Zola . He devoted a book to this matter in several volumes, Histoire de l'affaire Dreyfus. This book, in essence, represents the history of France in the period from 1894 with the brilliant characteristics of individual politicians (Mercier, Melina, etc.). In connection with the same case, Reinach wrote a book: “Une erreur judiciaire sous Louis XV” (“Judicial error in the reign of Louis XV”, Paris, 1898).
Joseph Reinach died on April 18, 1921 in the city of Paris .
