Game career
Fernando Chalana was born in the Barreiro district of Setubal County. There he began his football career, playing in the youth team of the Barreirency club. From there he went to the Benfica Club Academy. In 1976, he began to play for the core team. His debut game was the match March 7, 1976 against Firense (3-0) [3] . In the first season, he won the Portuguese title as part of his team. In total, he played for Benfica for 9 years, having played 263 games and scored 39 goals. During this period, he won five Portuguese titles, three Portuguese Cups and one Portuguese Super Cup .
In 1984, Chalana transferred to the French Bordeaux , which paid a record 18 million francs for itself. In this team, the football player spent 3 years, but almost did not play due to numerous injuries. In 1987, the midfielder returned to Benfica, with whom he won the championship and the Portuguese Super Cup. He completed the career of Chalan in the teams - Belenensis and Estrela (Amadora) , who played in the second division .
International Career
On November 17, 1976, at the age of 17, Chalana made his debut with the Portuguese national team in the 1978 World Cup qualifier against Denmark , in which his team won 1-0 [3] .
