Born in the Tigray region. Performances in the international arena began in 2002. Multiple winner and winner of the world championships in cross-country . Winner of the 2010 New York Marathon with a score of 2: 08.14. Bronze medalist of the 2011 Boston Marathon . In the world series World Marathon Majors, the 2009/2010 season took 9th place, and in the 2010/2011 season 5th place.
He performed at the marathon race at the 2011 World Cup, but could not finish the race. At the Olympics in London, he took 8th place at a distance of 10,000 meters .
