Massive unrest in the Kopeysk colony No. 6 - events that began on the night of November 25, 2012 in the maximum security colony No. 6 of the city of Kopeisk .
On the last weekend of November 2012, prisoners at correctional colony No. 6 in the city of Kopeisk, Chelyabinsk Region, went on a hunger strike and hung up posters asking for help. The riot police dispersed the relatives of the prisoners gathered at the colony’s walls on the night of November 25, but they continued to stand in the cold in the following days, demanding guarantees for the safety of prisoners [1] . The conflict was settled only on November 27, when the prisoners went to the building.
A member of the regional public commission on the rights of prisoners, Nikolai Schur, confirmed the facts of mass extortion and torture of prisoners [2] .
After the riot, a criminal case was opened against employees of the Kopeysk colony under Article 286 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation ( abuse of power ) [3] , and more than ten persons from among the prisoners and their relatives were charged under Articles 212 and 318 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (“Participation in mass riots ”and“ The use of violence against authorities ”) [4] .
