Convergence and Union ( Cat. Convergència i Unió , CiU) is a center-right electoral alliance in Catalonia that existed from 1980 to 2015. Technically, CiU is an association of two parties: the greater Democratic Convergence of Catalonia ( Convergence ) and the smaller Democratic Union of Catalonia ( Union ). The Alliance was led by Convergence Leader Arthur Mas , who is also the head of the Catalan government [1] [2] [3] [4] .
Convergence and the Union was an alliance of two Catalan nationalist parties. He is generally considered a moderate nationalist force, both in Catalonia and in the rest of Spain.
In the November 28, 2010 election, the party won 38.5% and took 14 of 62 seats in the Catalan parliament . After crowded demonstrations in Barcelona, early parliamentary elections were held, in which the alliance took first place in the number of votes, but their share was only 30.68% [5] .
