Gogol Library (Library No. 9 named after N. V. Gogol, GBUK of Moscow “Central Library System of Central Administrative Offices” by merging the Central Library. N. V. History
The decision to create a library-reading room named after N. Gogol was taken by the Moscow City Duma in preparation for the celebration of the 100th anniversary of the writer. At the opening of the library by the Moscow government was allocated a fairly significant amount - 10 thousand rubles. The library’s initial collection was 2,500 books. From 1913 to 1983, the library was located at the address: Krasnaya Presnya Street (until 1918 - Bolshaya Presnya), 4. In November 1913, a children's department was also opened in the library, which in 1921 received the status of the Children's Library. N.V. Gogol [1] .
In the first post-revolutionary years, the main task of the library is the elimination of illiteracy of the population. In thirty-nine schools of educational program the library organizes loud readings, conversations, acquaints students with books on any branches of knowledge. Her mobile fund served almost a hundred organizations of Presnensky district. From the beginning of 1941, the library receives a new official name - “District Library No. 46 named after N. V. Gogol, Sovetsky District of the City of Moscow”.
During the war years, the library served readers outside its walls - in bomb shelters, at the Mayakovskaya metro station, in sponsored hospitals, militia strongholds. In the postwar years, the library became one of the most important cultural centers of the Presnensky district. Famous writers perform at library evenings: Y. German , V. Soloukhin , V. Telpugov , critics D. Starikov , F. Kuznetsov . In a separate area of library activity stands out work with veterans.
In 1976, the Central Library System of the Krasnopresnensky District was established, headed by the N. Gogol Library. In 1983, the library moved to its present building at 39 Bolshaya Gruzinskaya Street.
In 1992—2013 Central Library number 46 to them. N. V. Gogol was a member of the Centralized Library System No. 4 of the Central Administrative District of Moscow. On October 16, 2013, it became part of the Central Educational Institution of Culture of Moscow. N. V. Gogol, September 17, 2014 received the status of the Library number 9 named. N.V. To the writer's birthday on the facade of the building a memorial sign was installed with the inscription: “ Central Library No. 46 named after. N. V. Gogol was discovered in 1909 by the decision of the Moscow City Duma on the 100th anniversary of the birth of Nikolai Vasilyevich Gogol . ”
