Star flounder [1] , or Pacific river flounder [1] ( Platichthys stellatus ) is a species of bony fish from the family of flounder ( Pleuronectidae ). Large flounder, reaching over 60 cm in the waters of Russia. It lives in a wide range of depths: from the surf line to several hundred meters. The highest population density reaches along the coastal strip to a depth of 10-17 meters. The eurygaly species, represented by two forms: the coastal one, which enters the estuaries and remains there for wintering, and the marine one, which dwells at greater depths throughout the year than the coastal form. There is practically no specialized fishing for stellar flounder, but representatives of this species are often found as by-catch.
