History and Architecture
The construction of the temple was started in 944. He acquired his modern look at the end of the 19th century thanks to the generosity of Nasruddin Shah , who financed the construction of a golden dome 68 meters high and 20 meters wide. Construction work continued from 1868 to 1905.
During the Iraq war on February 22, 2006, a terrorist attack occurred in a mosque that damaged the golden dome. This led to an outbreak of violence between Shiites and Sunnis. In June 2007, another terrorist attack took place near a mosque. Restoration work was completed by April 2009.
