Biography
Born March 16, 1868 ( Virginia , Illinois ). After studying with John Henry Comstock at Cornell University (1896–1898), he taught biology at Lake Forest University in 1898–1907 . In 1908 he returned to Cornell as an assistant professor of limnology . When John Henry Comstock resigned in 1914 , Nydem became head of the Cornellian Entomology Department until his retirement in 1935 [1] .
Niedem published many scientific articles, educational works, and textbooks, however, he is best known as the creator of the Comstock – Niedem system for describing the venation of insect wings .
He was a member of the Entomological Society of America , the American Association for the Development of Science and the Limnological Society of America [1] .
