About the album
The Historic Dead was recorded in San Francisco during concerts at the Avalon Ballroom in late 1966, and released in June 1971. He went out on long-playing records. Published on Sunflower Records and distributed by MGM Records. Sunflower Studios acquired the rights to a number of live recordings made at Avalon Ballroom, including the Grateful Dead . [1] . Thus, the recording is legal, although the group did not take any part in the release of the album. The album reached 154th position on the Billboard 200 . [2] It did not go on sale again, nor was it reissued on CD. This album was preceded by Vintage Dead , another album released by Sunflower based on recordings made in 1966 during concerts at the Avalon Ballroom.
