Haugen, Turmud

Turmud Haugen was born and raised in the small village of Trysil in the province of Hedmark in Norway. He graduated from the Department of Comparative Literature and the History of Art at the University of Oslo , after which in 1971-1973 he worked at the Munch Museum . As a writer, he debuted in 1973 with the book Ikke som i fjor (“Not Like Last Year”), after which he began to publish regularly, becoming one of the most famous children's writers in Scandinavia. ^[2]

The main theme of Haugen's works is the psychology of the child, the main thing in his books is the inner world and emotions of children. Haugen writes about children and adults dreaming of a society where you can trust each other and develop your abilities. The heroes of his books, as a rule, fall into difficult life situations, experiencing such emotions as fear, insecurity, rejection and depression. Children - characters of Haugen's works - feel unspoken, see falsehood, although they do not always understand its reasons. Haugen's books are written in simple language and easy to read, but their value is not in what can be directly expressed in words, but in what does not lie on the surface. In the works of Haugen there are puzzles, secrets, secrets - everything, as in the world of children. ^[3]

Haugen's works are translated into 24 languages ​​and published in 26 countries. Haugen was also a talented translator, among his translations into Norwegian - “ The Chronicles of Narnia ” by C. S. Lewis .

In Russian in 1997, his novels “The Vanished Day”, “White Castle”, “Seven Tsarist Stones” were published, and in 2007, the most famous novel “Night Birds” translated by L. Gorlina was published at the Samokat publishing house. ^[four]

Turmud Haugen was awarded a number of prestigious literary prizes, including the Prize of the Association of School Libraries of the North (1986), the Little Nobel Prize named after H.K. Andersen (1990). In 1984, he became the first children's writer to be nominated for the Nordic Literature Prize . He was also nominated for the Norwegian Booksellers Award in 1997 and the Astrid Lindgren Memorial Award in 2005. ^[five]
