The Church of Sergius from Zaluzhia is an active Orthodox church of the late 16th century, a monument of history and culture of federal significance, located in the Okolny city of Pskov .

Content

Description

The church is built of limestone slabs, coated and whitewashed. The main volume is cubic, covered with an eight-slope roof. Inside the vaults rest on four pillars. The drum is decorated with two “runner” belts and one “curb” between them, as well as a belt of tiles. The four walls of the church have the usual three-part divisions. On the north wall there is a two-span belfry. On the east side are three low apses.

History

  • The name was given to the place not far from which the church was built - it was called a "puddle" (swamp).
  • Built between 1582 and 1589 in connection with the transfer of the Sergius Monastery from the Posad under the protection of the city walls with the approach of the troops of Stephen Batory. Around the church was a small monastery cemetery.
  • The monastery lasted until 1710, when it was abolished and became a courtyard of the Lyubyatovsky Nikolaevsky monastery.
  • In 1786, the chapel of St. Nikander of Pskov the Miracle Worker was added from the south, at the expense of the merchant Ivan Yakovlevich Postnikov, with the blessing of the Archbishop of Pskov and Riga Innokenty (Nechaev), given February 20, 1785.
  • In 1808, the church was intended to be demolished as completely dilapidated, but the Holy Synod did not allow demolition.
  • At the beginning of the 20th century, the church was transferred to Sergievsky Real School, on May 24, 1909 the first service in the church was held for the students of the school.
  • In June 1920, the management department of the Pskov district city executive committee drew up an act on the transfer of the church to a religious society. On behalf of the faithful, the act was signed by the priest. Konstantin Znamensky (in 1937 he was arrested and executed on January 2, 1938).
  • On December 23, 1936, the Pskov City Executive Committee decided to close the church.

  • In August 1945, a part of the temple with a belfry collapsed. [1] In 1948, the temple was measured by students of the Moscow Architectural Institute .
  • By Decree of the Council of Ministers of the RSFSR No. 1327 dated August 30, 1960, it was taken under state protection as a monument of republican significance.
  • In the early 1970s. studies of the building were carried out (under the direction of N. S. Rakhmanina), during which a wooden box was found in a masonry cache with 56 old manuscripts of the 16th-17th centuries folded into a tube (transferred to the Pskov Museum's ancient storage).
  • Restoration and conservation work carried out in 1974-1978. (designed by architect N.S. Rakhmaninova) remained incomplete. [2]
  • In October 2009, the religious group Community of the Orthodox Church of Sergius from Zaluzhie was founded; the Diocesan Administration was notified of this by it. The Pskov diocese accepted the church two years later; Priest Michael (Fedorov) was appointed rector. [3]

The restoration of the temple. 2015

  • On December 26, 2011, an order was issued by the Government of the Russian Federation (No. 2364-r) “On Approving the Plan of Main Activities for the Preparation and Celebration of the 700th Anniversary of the Birth of St. Sergius of Radonezh ”. The temple was included in this program. It was supposed to allocate 50 million rubles. from 6.5 billion rubles. public funds allocated for the celebration.
  • March 14, 2013 A. A. Turchak and Minister of Culture V. R. Medinsky discussed financing from the federal budget for restoration work. [6] On December 30, 2013, Pskov was visited by Minister of Culture V. R. Medinsky. The regional authorities included the church of Sergius in the program of the visit.
  • On April 24, 2014, the Territorial Administration of the Federal Property Management Agency adopted decision No. 1/14 on transferring for free use the local religious organization to the Orthodox Parish of the Church of St. Sergius of Radonezh from the Zaluzhi city of Pskov, the Pskov Diocese of the Russian Orthodox Church.   • The state contract of the Ministry of Culture of the Russian Federation in the framework of the federal target program “Culture of Russia” at the object of cultural heritage of federal significance was concluded with LLC “Bast” (St. Petersburg). [eight]
