The abbreviated name of the genus: Sei. [2]

The genus is named after the lover of orchids, Danish diplomat Gunnar Seidenfaden (1908-2001). In 1956-1984, he organized several expeditions and described more than 120 new species of orchids from Southeast Asia. Seidenfadenia mitrata was first described as Aerides mitrata in 1864, and separated into a separate genus Seidenfadenia in 1972 [3] .

Botanical Description

The stalk is straight, up to 25 cm in length, monopodial type. The roots are long, often longer and more numerous than leaves.

The leaves are dark green, semi-rollish (cylindrical with a longitudinal groove), pointed, 40–90 cm long, about 0.5 cm thick. Representatives of the genus Holcoglossum have similar leaves.

Inflorescences are erect, shorter than leaves, bear 8-30 flowers.

Flowers with a diameter of 1.25-1.8 cm, with a strong, sweet aroma . The sepals and petals are white, but can be covered with lilac-pink dots or with lilac-pink coloring of the edges. The column and lip are lilac-pink. The lip is flat. The duration of flowering is 15-20 days [4] [3] [6] [7] .

Lighting: 50% in direct sunlight; 2500–3500 FC (26910–37674 lux ). Relative humidity is high. In winter, a reduction in watering is required [7] [4] .
