Biography
Semyon Golub was born on May 5, 1916 in the village of Black Horn (now the Semenovsky district of the Chernihiv region of Ukraine ) in a peasant family. In 1934 he graduated from three courses of a forest technical school, after which he worked as a team leader on a collective farm . In 1939, Golub was called up for service in the Workers 'and Peasants' Red Army. He participated in the Soviet-Finnish war. Since February 1943 - on the fronts of the Great Patriotic War. He graduated from junior lieutenant courses. He took part in the battles on the North-West , 1st , 2nd and 3rd Ukrainian fronts. By March 1945, Captain Semyon Golub commanded the battery of the 652nd Artillery Regiment of the 202nd Rifle Division of the 27th Army of the 3rd Ukrainian Front. Distinguished himself during the liberation of Hungary [1] .
On March 9, 1945, the battery of Golub repelled a large number of enemy counterattacks in the area of the village of Shimontornya north-west of the town of Paks , destroying 2 tanks and about 80 enemy soldiers and officers. On March 10, Golub personally knocked out an enemy tank. On March 11, his battery destroyed 2 mortars , 3 machine guns , as well as a large number of enemy soldiers and officers. During the next counterattack, Golub personally stood up to one of the guns and knocked out two German tanks from it. In battle, he was wounded, but did not leave his post, continuing to lead the battery. He died that day. He was buried near the village of Simontornia [1] .
By decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR of June 29, 1945 for "exemplary performance of the combat missions of the command and the courage and heroism shown at the same time," Captain Semyon Golub was posthumously awarded the high rank of Hero of the Soviet Union . He was also awarded the Orders of Lenin , the Red Banner , World War II degree, two orders of the Red Star [1] .
A street and a school in the Black Horn are named after Golub [1] .
