Born on February 5, 1938 in the village of Borovskoye, now an urban-type village of the Borovskoye, Kustanai region of Kazakhstan, in the family of a collective farmer. Russian. He graduated from 10 classes [1] .

Drafted into the Armed Forces of the USSR on August 31, 1956 . In 1956 he entered the Alma-Ata Higher Command Border School from the army, from which he graduated in 1959. Later, in 1971, he also graduated in absentia from the four-year foreign language course at the Turkmen State University named after A. Gorky and the higher officer courses “Shot” in Moscow.

The entire officer service of V.I. Ukhabov took place in the Central Asian (until 1963 - Turkmen) border district. From September 26, 1959 to April 21, 1960 - an officer of the 18th border detachment. From April 21, 1960 to September 2, 1965 - Deputy Head of the Frontier Outpost of the 46th Frontier Detachment. From September 2, 1965 to August 13, 1970 - head of physical training and sports of the 2nd branch of the headquarters of the 81st border detachment. From August 13, 1970 to July 16, 1974, he was the head of the 4th border outpost of the 81st border detachment. From July 16, 1974 to July 4, 1977 - deputy commandant of the border commandant's command "Ayvaj" of the 81st border detachment. From July 4, 1977 to September 12, 1980 - deputy commandant of the border commandant’s office, then chief of the 2nd branch of the headquarters of the 47th border detachment. Since 1979 - head of the 2nd branch of the headquarters of the 47th border detachment. From October 10, 1980 to June 10, 1981 - temporarily acting as commandant of the border commandant’s office of the 47th border detachment.

In the Republic of Afghanistan since June 10, 1981 , military missions performed since October 1981 . From June 10, 1981 to October 12, 1983 - chief of staff - deputy chief, then head of the motorized maneuver group of the 67th Kara-Kalin border detachment (military unit 2047; Kufab gorge, Badakhshan province). He was directly involved in the development and conduct of 35 military operations in the provinces of Badakhshan, Balkh , Jauzjan , Faryab , as a result of which several large gangs of dushmans were defeated and a large number of weapons and ammunition were captured.

“Since July 1981, he fought in Afghanistan, where he commanded the DShMG of the 67th Kara-Kalin border detachment, based in the Kufab Gorge. Warrior border guards of the group of Lieutenant Colonel Ukhabov repeatedly entered into fierce fighting with the enemy, leaving them victorious. In the battle on the night of October 12, 1983 with superior forces of dushmans, the commander of the DShMG V. I. Ukhabov died the death of the brave ... "

Hero of the Soviet Union

By decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR of November 10, 1983, "For courage and heroism shown in the protection of the State border of the USSR, Lieutenant Colonel Ukhov Valery Ivanovich was awarded the title Hero of the Soviet Union (posthumously)."

He was buried at the Kuntsevsky cemetery in the hero city of Moscow (plot 9-2).
