Biography and military career

Born December 13, 1935 in the village of Slavyanskaya, now the city of Slavyansk-on-Kuban, Krasnodar Territory, in the family of an employee. Ukrainian.

In 1939, his parents moved to Ukraine in the village of Alifirovka, Mirgorodsky district, Poltava region . During World War II, parents fought in a partisan detachment, were extradited by traitors and shot on November 7, 1941. After the liberation of the Ukrainian SSR, together with his elder brother, he was brought up in the family of his mother’s younger sister. In 1945, together with his brother entered the Krasnodar Suvorov School. In 1947, the school was transferred to the city of Ordzhonikidze (now Vladikavkaz) and renamed the Caucasian IED.

In 1953, after graduating from the Caucasian Suvorov Military School, he enlisted in the Soviet Army. In 1956 he graduated from the Caucasian Military All-Arms School in the city of Ordzhonikidze (now Vladikavkaz). In 1956 he was sent to the Far Eastern Military District as a platoon commander in a separate special company of the 25th Army. In 1957 he was transferred to the Northern Group of Forces (Poland), and was appointed commander of a separate training platoon of the 27th separate special battalion. In 1960 he was appointed commander of the reconnaissance company of the same battalion. In 1963 I went to study at the academy.

In 1966 he graduated from the Military Academy named after MV Frunze, the intelligence department.
In 1966, he was again sent to the Far Eastern Military District, to the city of Ussuriysk, Primorsky Territory , as the head of the operational intelligence department of the 14th separate special forces brigade.
From 1971 - chief of staff of a separate 15th separate special brigade of the Turkestan military district in the city of Chirchik, Tashkent region of the UzSSR , and from 1975 the commander of the same brigade.
In November 1977, he was appointed to the post of senior officer in the Main Intelligence Directorate of the General Staff .

In 1980-1982, V.V. Kolesnik studied at the Military Academy of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of the USSR. After graduation in 1982, he was appointed the head of the special intelligence unit of the GRU of the General Staff of the USSR Armed Forces. Major General (1988).
Since 1992, retired. Served as president of the Moscow City Branch of the Social Security Fund for Military Personnel.

He lived in Moscow. He died on October 30, 2002. He was buried at the Donskoy cemetery in Moscow, next to his son Mikhail, who died in Chechnya in 1995 (section 17).

Title Hero of the Soviet Union

In 1979, under the leadership of V. V. Kolesnik, the 154th separate special forces detachment (a combined battalion of more than 500 men) was formed and trained according to its methods.

From December 5 to December 10, 1979, the battalion departed for Afghanistan to perform a special assignment of the Soviet government. Major Holbaev Khabibdzhan Tadjibaevich was appointed commander of the battalion during his stay in Afghanistan, but the general leadership of the detachment and the planning of military operations were carried out by the commander of the 15th Colonel Kolesnik.

On December 27, 1979, the forces of the battalion fighters, together with the special units of the KGB of the USSR, stormed the Amin Palace.

For this operation, by the Decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR of April 28, 1980, Colonel Kolesnik Vasily Vasilyevich was awarded the title Hero of the Soviet Union with the award of the Order of Lenin and the Gold Star medal.

  • In Moscow, secondary school No. 1112 was named after V. Kolesnik. After the merger in 2013 with secondary school No. 1590, the honorary name passed to the second educational institution [3] .
