Design Description
Armored Corps and Tower
The BMD-1KSh command and staff vehicle was created on the basis of the BTR-D . Native weapons and loopholes for firing from personal weapons are absent. On-site machine guns posted additional equipment. Hatches for landing officers in the fighting compartment were transferred from the roof of the middle part of the hull to the driver’s hatch. The BMD-1KSh commander’s turret is moved closer to the stern and port side compared to the base vehicle. To improve the working conditions of staff officers, three windows are placed in the armor plate of the cabin, which are closed by armored covers [1] .
Monitoring and communication tools
BMD-1KSH has several VHF and HF communication channels. The communication equipment includes two R-123M radios, two R-111 and one R-130 radio station. Each radio station can operate independently of each other. To ensure stable communication using the R-130 radio station at ranges up to 50 km, the BMD-1KSH is equipped with a four meter whip antenna. To increase the communication range, it is possible to use a mast antenna. The power supply of the devices is provided by the AB-0.5-P / 30 petrol power unit [1] .
Modifications
BMD-1KSH-A
Modern modernized version with the installation of a set of technical means of automation and communication. The outdated radio stations R-111, R-123 and R-130 were replaced by new VHF stations R-168-100U-2, R-168-UN5-2 with T-231-1N equipment and a HF station R-168-100KB. Data can be transmitted over encrypted telecode communication channels using T-236-B equipment. In addition, BMD-1KSH-A has the ability to create a satellite communications channel, for this the machine is interfaced with the R-438-M station [2] .
