Postnikov, Ivan Matveevich

Ivan Matveevich Postnikov (September 10, 1906, Ershovo village - August 8, 1990, Kiev) - Soviet electrical scientist, professor, corresponding member of the Ukrainian SSR . Professor of the Department of Electric Machines of the Leningrad Polytechnic Institute (1945-49), Head of the Department of Electric Machines of the Kiev Polytechnic Institute (1950-75), Head of the Department of Magnetic Hydrodynamics and Electromechanical Systems (1961-63), Department of AC Generation, Institute of Electrodynamics, Academy of Sciences of the Ukrainian SSR (1964- 88). The main works relate to the theory of designing electrical machines and generalized theory. This is the fundamental course Design of Electrical Machines (1952, 1962), and the Generalized Theory and Transients of Electrical Machines (1974). For many years, Ivan Matveevich led research work in the field of improving the reliability of synchronous turbogenerators and creating new types of electric machines ( shock generators , MHD generators , asynchronous and asynchronized generators, etc.). He created a school of electricians in many cities of the Soviet Union, and also trained specialists in Germany, India, China, Bulgaria, Romania, Czechoslovakia, Poland.

Biography

In 1932 he graduated from the Electromechanical Department of the Leningrad Polytechnic Institute with the qualification of an electrical engineer. In 1932-1936 - graduate student of LPI.

In 1936, under the guidance of Professor M.P. Kostenko, he defended his thesis on the problem of obtaining large quantities of short-term electromagnetic power.

In 1937-1944 - Associate Professor of LPI.

During the siege of Leningrad in 1941-1942, he worked at a special plant. In 1942, he was evacuated along with the LPI to Pyatigorsk, and then to Tashkent.

In 1943 he defended his doctoral dissertation, which was based on theoretical research in the field of heating of electric machines and a large experimental material obtained during the testing of Dzorages hydroelectric generators (Armenia).

In the years 1945-1950 - professor of LPI.

From October 1, 1949 to February 1, 1950 he worked part-time as the head of the department of production, distribution and use of electricity in agricultural LIMSHA.

Since 1950, for 25 years, he headed the department of electrical machines at the Kiev Polytechnic Institute (KPI).

Since 1954, he combined work in the KPI with work at the Institute of Electrodynamics of the Academy of Sciences of the Ukrainian SSR, where from 1964 to 1988 he was the head of the department for AC generation. [2]

He died on August 8, 1990 in Kiev. He was buried at the Bike cemetery.

Son: Victor Ivanovich Postnikov (born 1949).
