Link to History
The cold war of the 80s of the XX century between the West and the USSR gave rise to a number of anti-Soviet films, among which "Born by an American" stands out for a clearly built ideological position. The idea of the film is simple and understandable: the superiority of American democratic values over totalitarian-communist, Soviet. On the other hand, the Soviets in the film treated the heroes quite humanely, preserving the life of all three, given the damage they caused, including human casualties among Soviet citizens. The unwillingness of American diplomats to help heroes was also noted.
In the film, Soviet life is shown in a gloomy vein, the main negative characters are the evil employees of the prison and the KGB , adherents of communist ideas. Simple heroes are ordinary American guys whose main goal is entertainment.
The film was designed for young people, who by that time had undergone significant ideological anti-Soviet training.
Subsequently, it was banned from showing in Finland [1] .
