Minami District ( я 区, み な み く, [ mʲinamʲi ku̥ ], “Southern District”) is a district of the city of Hiroshima of the Hiroshima Prefecture in Japan . As of October 1, 2007 [1], the area of the district was 26.09 km ². As of June 1, 2011 [2], the population of the district was 138,871 people.

District Symbols
Minami's emblem is a stylized image of a symbol of the world, a white dove flying up, and signs of the Japanese syllabic alphabet ミ ナ ミ (minami), the name of the area. The emblem personifies the desire for eternal peace and development.
The Minami flag is a blue cloth whose sides correspond as 2 to 3. In the center of the cloth there is an emblem of the district of white color. Blue and white colors symbolize “clear sky and water” and “peace and cleanliness”.
General Information
The Minami district is located in the delta of the Ota River, sandwiched between its arms, the Kobasi and Enko rivers. It is a kind of entrance to Hiroshima: JR Hiroshima railway station is located in its northern part, and the city’s port is in the south.
Due to the special position in Minami especially commerce and various types of services. In the coastal part are the factories and the museum of the automobile company Mazda Motor Corporation .
The area is also the seat of the Institute of Radiation Biology and Medicine at the University of Hiroshima .
Minami is famous for its beautiful parks and places for recreation. Among them are the Hiji and Ogon mountains, which are known for sakura gardens. In the spring, when the trees bloom, the area is visited by many residents of Hiroshima and other cities in the region. In the park part there is also a city museum of modern art.
A feature of the Minami area is that it includes a number of Hiroshima islands located in the Inland Sea of Japan . Almost all of them are part of this region, with the exception of Tsukune Island, which belongs to the Saeki District .
Islands
- Kanawa Island (金轮 岛)
Kanawa Island, or the “Golden Wheel Island”, is located 1 km south-east of Hiroshima. Its area is 1.05 m 2 . In 1894 a military factory was built on the island, which was engaged in the manufacture of ships. After World War II, the plant was transferred to a peaceful track. Today, the island is a large green park. It can be reached by ferry from the port of Hiroshima.
- Toge Island (峠 岛)
Toge Island, or “Pass Island”, is located 3.5 km south of Hiroshima. Its area is 0.26 m 2 . Today it is a desert island.
- Nino Island (似 岛)
The island of Ninoshima, or “island like”, is located 3 km south of Hiroshima. Its area is 3.87 m 2 . Nino is the largest island of the city [3] . It is located on the mountain "Little Akiy Fuji" height of 278 m. From its summit offers a beautiful view of the central part of Hiroshima. The island can be reached by ferry from the port of Hiroshima.
- Okakuma Island (大 カ ク マ 島)
Okakuma Island, or “Godzaita Island” (энд 天 岛), is located 6 km south-west of Hiroshima. Its area is 0.02 m 2 . The island is completely green. He is known among fishermen as one of the best fishing spots in Hiroshima.
- Kokakuma Island (小 カ ク マ 島)
Kokakuma Island, or “Little Island of the Goddess Benzaiten ” (小 弁 天 岛), is located 0.4 km north of Okakuma Island. Its area is 0.01 m 2 . The island has rocky shores and is covered with vegetation.
- Motuzina Island (元 宇 品)
Motodzina, or "Uji Island" (宇 品 岛), does not look like an island, but actually it is. It is connected to the rest of Hiroshima by a bridge, which was built in 1889 . The area of this island is 0.47 m 2 . After World War II, Motodzina became part of the National Park of the Inner Sea of Japan, which made it impossible to cut trees on it. Today this island is famous for its old forests.
