Hugo Heinrich Delph ( German Hugo Delff ; August 11, 1840 , Husum — November 6, 1898 , Husum ) was a German philosopher , literary critic, and Protestant theologian .
Biography
He was born in the family of a bookseller, suffered from childhood nerve diseases inherited from his parents. In 1850 he graduated from high school in his native city, then he studied in Meldorf and from 1855 in Alton . From a young age he was extremely interested in history and literary studies, reading books on these disciplines during out-of-school time, as well as philosophy, which he began to study separately from 1856, but he soon abandoned its study and in 1857 entered the University of Tübingen to study theology. Subsequently, he returned several times to the study of philosophy, and then again to theology, several times completely interrupting activity due to aggravation of nervous diseases caused by "remorse" for throwing philosophy for theology or vice versa. A doctoral degree was eventually obtained at the University of Kiel for theology.
In 1865, he lived in Leipzig for three months, then finally returned to his hometown. Together with his brother, he managed a bookstore inherited from his father; after the death of his brother, he supported the matter alone; for thirty years, all my free time was devoted to independent study of philosophy and theology, writing several dozen essays on these issues.
