The Generalissimo of the People’s Republic of China ( Chinese: 中華人民共和國 大元帥 ) - the highest military rank in the PRC in 1955-1965. No one was assigned, therefore, in practice, the highest military rank was the title of Marshal of the PRC . In the "Regulations on the passage of service by officers of the People's Liberation Army of China" on the rank of generalissimo, the following was said:

The title of Generalissimo of the People’s Republic of China is awarded for the creation of the national people's armed forces and for the leadership of the national people's armed forces during the revolutionary struggle.

Original text (Chinese)
對 創建 全國 人民 武裝力量 和 領導 全國 人民 武裝力量 進行 革命 戰爭 , 立 有 卓越 功勳 的 最高 統帥 , 授予 中華人民共和國 大元帥 軍銜。

Only Mao Zedong fell under this definition, but as mentioned above, the title of Generalissimo was not assigned to anyone.

In 1965, all military ranks in the PRC were abolished.

At present, the title of generalissimo is absent in China, and the general has been the highest military rank since 2009.
