History
Until the end of the 18th century, nomadic khuruls were built on the territory of the Astrakhan region , but already in the 19th century seven stationary khuruls were built - according to the number of Kalmyk uluses of the Astrakhan province , and by the end of the 20s of the 20th century their number increased to 28. Almost all of them were barbaric destroyed in the godless years of Soviet power. Dozens of different peoples live on the territory of the Astrakhan region , one of which is Kalmyks , most of them professing Buddhism and the most numerous in the Liman district of the Astrakhan region. On their initiative and with the support of regional authorities, in 1997 in the village of Liman village the construction of a new Buddhist temple was started. The opening of the khurul took place in 2003 and was timed to coincide with the 60th anniversary of the deportation of the Kalmyk people. In memory of the Kalmyks who did not return from exile, a memorial plaque was erected on the territory of the temple.
Description
The architecture of the khurula reflects the main symbols of the Buddhist faith: “The Wheel of Learning,” symbolizing the eternal movement; kurde drums with prayers that help to achieve enlightenment; four stupas are symbols of the universe. Inside the khurul is the "Golden" Buddha statue, one and a half meters high.
