Biography
Sergei Golovashenko was born on March 27, 1923 in a peasant family in the village of Novoselye (now Kupinsky District, Novosibirsk Region ). He graduated from seven classes of high school. He moved to the Kemerovo region , graduated from tractor courses at the Belovsky Zinc Plant, after which he worked as a mechanic for the Progress collective farm in the Kiselevsky district. In June 1941, Golovashenko was called up for service in the Workers 'and Peasants' Red Army. By the summer of 1943, the Red Army soldier Sergei Golovashenko was a machine gunner of the 1183rd Infantry Regiment of the 256th Infantry Division of the 61st Army of the Central Front . He distinguished himself during the Battle of Kursk and the Battle of the Dnieper [1] .
During the battle near the Mashok River in the area of the village of Mikhnev, Bolkhov District, Oryol Region , despite the massive enemy fire, he crept up to the enemy machine-gun point and destroyed it with grenades, thereby ensuring the success of the unit’s attack. September 28, 1943, together with a group of fighters, crossed the Dnieper in the area of the village of Novosyolki, Repki district, Chernihiv region of the Ukrainian SSR . For several days, he as part of a group reflected the enemy’s continuous attacks, inflicting significant losses. October 4, 1943 Golovashenko died in battle. He was buried in the village of Pirki ( Braginsky district , Gomel region , Belarus ) [1] .
By a decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR of January 15, 1944 for “courage and heroism shown at the front of the struggle against the German invaders”, Red Army soldier Sergei Golovashenko was posthumously awarded the high title of Hero of the Soviet Union . He was also awarded the Order of Lenin and a medal [1] .
