Kappa rhythm

Kappa rhythm (κ rhythm, Kennedy rhythm) - EEG rhythm in the frequency band of 8-12 Hz and an amplitude of 20-30 μV, recorded in the temporal region. As in the alpha rhythm, fluctuations in the κ rhythm are spindle-shaped. Kappa rhythm is observed when alpha rhythm is suppressed in other areas in the process of mental activity. Kennedy was first described in 1948 (Kennedy et al., 1948).

The κ rhythm is best demonstrated when registering between the electrodes placed in both eyes lateral to the outer corner of the palpebral fissure.

There is currently no consensus on the brain origin of this rhythm. Some studies have suggested that this rhythm is an artifact associated with eye movements.
