Biography

Xerxes was born and lived in the III century BC. er . In 228 BC. e replaced his father Arsham on the throne of the Armenian kingdom Sofena [1] .

Having come to power, Xerxes refused to pay tribute to the treasury of the Seleucids . In response to this, Antioch III laid siege to the capital Sofena Arshamashat . Some courtiers advised Antiochus to overthrow Xerxes and put his nephew Mithridates in his place, but the king acted differently [2] . As a result of the negotiations, the conflict was resolved: Antiochus, having given his sister Antiochid to the rebellious Armenian tsar, forgave much of the debt, and Xerxes, in turn, recognized the power of the Seleucids [3] [4] . However, after some time, Antioch killed her husband Xerxes and annexed Sofeno kingdom to the possessions of her brother [5] .
