Su Tong ( Chinese ex. 苏童 , present - Su Zhonggui) is a Chinese prose writer. One of the most famous Chinese writers of the second half of the XX century.

Su Tong was born on January 23, 1963 in Suzhou , Jiangsu Province. In 1980, he entered Beijing Normal University . He came to literature in 1983. Since 1986, he has been working as editor of the literary magazine Zhong Shan in Nanjing.
Su Tong is the author of five novels, 14 collections of novels and short stories. Of these, the novels “ ” and “The Last Emperor”, the novels “Wives and Concubines”, “Blush”, “Escape from 1934”, “Family from Poppy Fields” and “The End of the Ceremony” are widely known.
Su Tong's early tales and short stories for daring experiments in the field of language and composition were ranked as a vanguard novel. In the early 1990s, the writer’s style changed: he writes nostalgic stories of family clans in old China, a series of stories about the fate of women, and historical works.
The works of Su Tong were published in China, Taiwan, USA, France, Italy and other countries. Many of his works have been filmed. The most famous film adaptation is the film “ Light the Red Lantern ” directed by Zhang Yimou , based on the novel “Wives and Concubines”.
