37 mm / 48 Model 1935 - 37 mm shipborne automatic anti - aircraft artillery designed and manufactured in France . It was planned to take it into service with the French Navy . It was intended for the armament of large ships, including battleships of the Dunkirk and Richelieu type , was to become the main means of the near air defense of the fleet. It was developed by Hotchkiss based on the already obsolete semi-automatic gun Model 1933 and was supposed to replace it. It was planned to adopt the twin and quad installations of these guns, which had remote control. The delays in the production of the 37mm / 48 Model 1935 did not actually allow this promising machine to be adopted. The only twin unit was placed on the Amiens memo and was successfully used in 1940 against the Luftwaffe [1] .
