Ahmed Muaz al-Khatib ( Arabic: أحمد معاذ الخطيب , exact transliteration: Åħmʌd Mvøað alĈʌɵib ) - Syrian politician, in November 2012 - March 2013 he was president of the National Coalition of Syrian Revolutionary and Opposition Forces .

Biography

Born in 1960 in Damascus . Before the civil war in Syria, he was an imam at the Umayyad Mosque in Damascus.

His father, Sheikh Muhammad Abu al-Faraj, is an Islamic scholar and renowned preacher of Damascus, originally from the al-Hasani family, direct descendants of Hassan bin Ali , the grandson of the Prophet Muhammad

There are Massuna's sister (teacher of Islamic jurisprudence), brothers Abdul Kadir ( preacher of the Umayyad mosque, professor of interpretation of the Koran and Islamic jurisprudence, mechanical engineer ) and Muhammad Muzhir (professor of Hadith and hadithology ).

Married, has four children: Aman, Abdurahman, Asma and Hashim.

In November 2012, he was elected president of the National Coalition of Syrian Revolutionary and Opposition Forces .

On January 30, 2013 he took the initiative to start a dialogue with representatives of the authorities “in the name of ending the bloodshed and saving hundreds of thousands of lives of civilians” [1] .

March 24, 2013 resigned from his post [2] . Among the reasons that prompted him to make such a decision, he called the increasing intervention of foreign countries such as Saudi Arabia and Qatar in the activities of the Syrian opposition.
