Kosovo vilayet

Kosovo vilayet ( Ottoman. ولايت قوصوه, Vilâyet-i Kosova ; [2] tur . Kosova Vilayeti ; Alb. Vilajeti i Kosovës ; Maced . Kosovski forks , Serboch . Kosovski vilaet ; Serbian. , which included the territory of Kosovo and a significant part of Macedonia . The Serbian-Montenegrin region of Sandzak was also formally part of the vilayet, although from 1878 to 1909 it was under the occupation of Austria-Hungary. [3] Uskub ( Skopje ) was the administrative center and largest city of the province, with 32,000 inhabitants. The second largest city is Pristina with a population of 30,000 inhabitants.

Vilayet included five sanjaks:

  • Skopsky with the cities of Skopje , Kumanovo , Kachanik , Shtip , Kratovo and Kochani
  • Prizrensky with the cities Prizren and Tetovo
  • Pecsky with the cities of Pecs , Dzhakovitsa , Goose , Berane and Trgovishte
  • Pristina with the cities of Pristina , Kosovsk-Mitrovica , Vucitrn , Gnilyane and Presevo
  • Novipazar with the cities of Novi Pazar , Sienica , Kolasin , Nova Varos and Pripolye

Kosovo vilayet was considered by the Albanian national movement as a prototype of an independent Albanian state. It was on its territory that the Prizren League was founded.

After the First Balkan War, the vilayet was divided between Serbia, Montenegro and Albania.
