Symptoms

Complaints of itching and dry skin of the external genital organs. Severe atrophy of the external genitalia, narrowing of the entrance to the vagina . The skin of the vulva becomes thinner, depigmented, covered with cracks, macerated, areas with dilated capillaries and small vessels (telangiectasia) appear. The labia majora become flat, lose hair , the labia minora and the clitoris are smoothed, the entrance to the vagina narrows and scleroses , possibly completely closing the entrance to the vagina. The process captures the posterior commissure of the labia majora and sometimes the perineum .

Thinning ( atrophy ) of the epithelium , often hyper-and parakeratosis , the absence of the papillary layer, and atrophy of the subcutaneous tissue are determined microscopically. Significant infiltration by plasma cells and lymphocytes is noted in the subepithelial layer.

Forecast

The disease is chronic, a very long time. Over time, pathological foci become variegated. Usually the disease is not cured and lasts a lifetime. Leukoplakia located on the mucous sites can degenerate into cancer processes over time, therefore, therapy is nevertheless mandatory, despite the irreversibility of the phenomena.

Treatment

Treatment is prescribed by a doctor. Topical: application in the form of ointments of estrogen , vitamin A and novocaine , 0.5% prednisone ointment with anestezin . The introduction of a 0.5% solution of novocaine into the subcutaneous tissue of the vulva is shown. In severe cases, the operation of extirpation of the vulva .

Kraurosis of the vulva is referred to as precancerous disease. Cancer of the vulva against the background of this disease occurs in 20-50% of cases.
