Dr. Marcus Welby

Dr. Marcus Welby, MD, is a long-running American television series created by David Victor and broadcast on ABC for seven seasons from September 23, 1969 to July 29, 1976. The plot was centered on a middle-aged family doctor, played by Robert Young , as well as his assistants and other hospital staff, where the action took place in each episode. The series began with a television movie shown six months before the premiere of the pilot episode.

The series turned out to be one of the most successful in the early seventies, especially in the 1970–71 season, when it headed the annual rating table of the most watched programs [1] . "Dr. Marcus Welby" was the first ABC channel program , which rose to the top of the annual rating [2] . Unlike other series of the seventies Marcus Welby, MD focused on sharp and controversial topics and in diagnostics deviated towards the psyche, which helped the show attract the young audience desired by the advertiser [2] .

During the broadcast period, the series received several awards, including the Emmy Award for the best drama series and the Golden Globe for the best television series - drama in 1970, as well as three more Emmys and Golden Globes in each categories [3] . The show was often criticized for showing controversial issues such as homosexuality, teacher rape by students, pedophilia, sexism and discrimination against women [2] .
