History

Formation History

The 10th separate tank battalion was formed in 1962 as part of the 6th Guards, Lviv, Order of Lenin, Red Banner, Order of Suvorov motorized infantry division , [1] with a deployment station Fürstenwalde (a settlement between the cities of Berlin and Frankfurt an der Oder ).

He was formed 10th by his first commander, Colonel M. Kuzmin. Of the units of the 20th Guards Combined Arms Army , one company was taken along with equipment and personnel and transferred to staff the battalion.

In 1964, 10 complete casts were redeployed to Berlin Karlhorst . The main task is to conduct large-scale military operations in West Berlin . Originally in Berlin, the battalion was located on the territory of the Berlin Brigade on German Dunker Strasse (now Treskov Alley). In 1967, the battalion again changed its location and occupied a military town at the intersection of Zwizeler Strasse and Robert Sievert Strasse . Operation Danube

From May 21 to November 11, 1968, the 10th Otb participated in Operation Danube . On May 21, the battalion received an alarm and advanced to the loading station, made a 250 km march by rail and concentrated in the south of the GDR in a forest 6 km from the border with Czechoslovakia. Here, from May to August 1968, the battalion took part in strategic maneuvers and exercises "Heavenly Shield" and ... others.

On the morning of August 20, the commander of the 10th detachment, Alekseev A.N., received orders to prepare vehicles for the march, to open zinc with cartridges, to equip grenades with fuses, and tank crews to obtain ammunition for personal weapons.

On August 20, 1968, the battalion received a combat order: to cross the state border with Czechoslovakia , make a 170-kilometer night march along the mountain roads of Czechoslovakia, and by 6:00 on 08/21/1968 go to the eastern outskirts of Prague .... Block local military camps, prevent officers from getting into them and withdraw troops from towns ...

On September 12, 1968, the battalion left Prague and concentrated near it. On November 11, 1968, the battalion was withdrawn from Czechoslovakia and on November 12, 1968, arrived at the permanent location of Berlin .

From August 21 to November 11, 1968, the battalion performed a combat mission in the suburbs of Prague . There were no casualties in the battalion. For the successfully completed combat mission, by order of the Minister of Defense of the USSR No. 242, thanks to the entire personnel of the 10th military unit were thanked, and the battalion commander Guards Lt. Col. Alekseev A.N. and company commander Captain Hristich were awarded the Order of the Red Star .

In the spring of 1970, the personnel of the battalion switched to a new uniform. In the fall of 1970, 10 battalions were rearmament on T-55 tanks , which arrived from 45th Guards. tp ( Weimar ). Brought out of state T-54 were sent to the USSR .

In the 70s, the battalion included:

In total, there were 51 T-55 tanks in the battalion : tank companies were armed with 10 tanks (each company had 3 platoons of three tanks plus a company commander tank) and a battalion tank. Two tanks from each company were part of the combat training group and were constantly in the training center of Mulrose . There were no boxes for storing combat vehicles, the tarpaulin-covered equipment stood in an open-air park. In 1976, there was a rearmament of 10 ref. All personnel, with the exception of the battalion commander and several officers, as well as all equipment were withdrawn to the Union . To replace the T-55 tanks by the end of the year from the inner districts drove the new T-64A with crews. One of the companies was made training and in full force was sent to the training ground in Mulrose . At the same time, the old barracks were demolished and in 1977 a new one was built. Our barracks were erected, and the Germans were engaged in interior decoration. At the same time, boxes for equipment were built in the fleet of combat vehicles.

By 1979, the structure of the battalion had changed - now it had 31 tanks (three tank companies with 10 T-64A tanks each) plus a battalion tank. At the same time, three cars made up a combat training group and were constantly at the training ground in Mulrose. In addition, the battalion had BMP-1 , BAT-M, and MTU-20 bridge - laying. All support units were consolidated into an economic company.

In the early 80s, the battalion continued to intensively develop its infrastructure, large-scale construction began on the territory of the unit. The two-storey building, which was in disrepair, was repaired near the parade ground, where the battalion headquarters was moved. At the same time, the TBP-92 automobile enterprise was based on the territory of the battalion (commercial and household enterprise No. 92)

Reorganization of Division and Battalion

In 1985, in accordance with the directives of the USSR Minister of Defense No. 314/1/00900 of December 4, 1984 and the General Staff of the USSR Armed Forces No. 314/3/0224 of February 8, 1985, the 6th Guards Motorized Rifle Division was reorganized into the 90th Guards Tank Lviv Order of Lenin The red banner of the Order of Suvorov Division (second formation). There was an exchange of numbering (from No. 6 to No. 90) and type (from a motorized rifle to a tank division) with the Vitebsk-Novgorod Guards twice-red banner division of the Northern Group of Forces ( Poland ). In this case, the 16th and 82nd guards. SMEs also changed their type and numbering, giving their numbers to the Vitebsk-Novgorod division. In Lviv, in turn, the 6th Guards appeared. In April 1985, the 10th battalion was transformed into the 3rd tank battalion of the 215th Guards Tank Regiment (second formation) of the 90th Guards. td . At the time of the reorganization, 10 battalions included three tank companies of 13 T-64A tanks each (plus a battalion tank — a total of 40 tanks). After the reformation, the structure of the battalion changed - three companies of 10 T-64A tanks plus a battalion commander’s tank (total 31 tanks). At the same time, the personnel released after the reduction was sent to serve in Bernau .

The chief of staff, Major Chechetov F. G., personally took and delivered the Battle Banner 10 battalions to Wünsdorf to the headquarters of the GSVG . The Banner of Battle 10 is stored in the Znamenny Fund of the Central Museum of the Armed Forces in Moscow .

Troop Withdrawal

In 1989, the withdrawal of troops from Germany began . The first to withdraw were units of the 20th Guards of the Combined Arms Army, the 32nd Guards Tank Division ( Uterbog ) and the 25th Guards Tank Division ( Vogelsang ). 215th Guards TP was reassigned to the 25th Guards. etc. and brought to the Union .
