Battlefield 1942: Secret Weapons of WWII

Battlefield 1942: Secret Weapons of WWII (from the English - “Battlefield-1942: The Secret Weapons of World War II”) is the second official addition to the Battlefield 1942 video game. As the name implies, the supplement is dedicated to secret, unusual examples of WWII technique and all events unfold around them. The duration of the action is 1943-1945, the scene of action is North Africa and Western Europe (Norway, Italy, France, Germany, Czech Republic).

Most of the unique equipment added in this supplement was built and adopted after the end of World War II, or even remained in the project. The rest of the "miracle weapons" did not have a significant impact on the course of the war. Thus, the addon is a kind of alternative history of the Second World War, giving the player the opportunity to see - what would happen if the latest technologies of the Third Reich and its opponents could be applied on the battlefield?

Gameplay

The gameplay in general has not undergone significant changes. Its essence remains the same: capture control points in order to reduce the tickets of the enemy team to a minimum. Of the innovations, a significant increase in vehicles, both swimming and air, should be noted. The appearance of a special transport aircraft makes it possible to carry out a massive release of the allied landing on the territory of the enemy (it also serves as a mobile air respawn point, which also became a novelty in the series). Also, the battle became much more diverse and interesting thanks to the introduction of amphibious vehicles, jet aircraft and, in contrast, self-propelled anti-aircraft guns and ground-to-air missiles; as well as an experimental jetpack that allows a soldier to fly and fight directly in the air. Added 2 new factions with new weapons and a unique uniform.

In total, the addon has 9 maps, 8 with bots, the 9th was added with a patch (without bots). Maps have become more diverse; cards with destroyed bridges first appeared, which forces the player to use roundabout maneuvers using amphibious machines. Also, for the first time in the history of the Battlefield series, 2 night maps appear, one of them is winter.

Factions

There are 4 fractions in the addon. 2 of them - the U.S. Army and the German Wehrmacht received new equipment, but the uniforms and weapons of the infantry remained the same as in Battlefield 1942. 2 new ones - the British commandos and the elite German troops are armed differently (in addition to conventional weapons, they received a new special one). Unlike the British commandos, the German Elite Forces is a fictional faction; apparently, the developers took as a basis the fighters of the German parachute jaeger troops and the Waffen SS.

Usually 2 of these factions of special forces fight against each other on maps that take place at secret missile bases of the Third Reich. The British commandos attack, trying to take control of the centers of production of “retaliation weapons” or, otherwise, “miracle weapons” (Wunderwaffe), which are extremely important for Germany. The elite troops of Germany are desperately fighting against them, trying with all their might to protect secret training grounds.

Conventional troops of America and Germany - the US Army and the Wehrmacht fight against each other, but 2 cards (Telemark and Eagle's Nest) are an exception to the rule. On the first, British commandos attack German positions, and ordinary Wehrmacht soldiers confront them. On the second, ordinary US Army soldiers storm mountains protected by German elite forces.

Classes of troops

Each faction is still represented by 5 types of troops: sniper, attack aircraft, grenade launcher, medic and engineer. All classes have knives - the Wehrmacht and the US Army are ordinary; soldiers of the British commandos and the elite forces of Germany have 5 knives, which can be both thrown at the enemy at close range and used in melee. Everyone, except the engineers, has 3 grenades (Mk I from the Allies, Stielhandgranate from the Germans), standard pistols (Colt M1911 from the Allies, Walther P 38 from the Germans).

For the first time in this expansion, throwing knives and rifle grenades appear.

  • Sniper. The main weapon is a sniper rifle. The Allies had Lee-Enfield No. 4, the Wehrmacht had Mauser 98k, the German elite had Gewehr 43 ZF 4. It also had 3 grenades, a knife (or 5 knives), binoculars and a standard gun.
  • Attack aircraft. The main weapons: automatic rifle, light machine gun or machine gun. The Americans use the BAR M1918 automatic rifle, the British commandos use the Bren light machine gun, the Wehrmacht use the Stg 44 assault rifle, the German elite use the FG 42 automatic rifle. It also has 3 grenades, a knife (or 5 knives) and a gun.
  • Grenade launcher. The main armament is a grenade launcher. Allies have M1 Bazooka, Germany and Italy Panzerschreck. Also has 3 grenades, a knife (or 5 knives) and a gun.
  • Medic. The main armament is a submachine gun. The USA has M1A1 Thompson, the British commandos have STEN with a silencer, the Germans have MP 40. It also has 3 grenades, a knife (or 5 knives), a gun and a first-aid kit, with which it can treat allies and itself.
  • Engineer. The main armament is a magazine rifle or shotgun. The engineers of the US Army - Lee-Enfield No. 4, the British commandos - the Browning Auto 5 shotgun, the Germans - the Mauser 98k carbine. An engineer has two clips more than a sniper. It also has a knife (or 5 knives), a gun, 4 anti-tank mines, 4 dynamite bundles that he can detonate with a detonator (an engineer of the German elite troops has 5 rifle grenades instead of dynamite) and a wrench with which he can fix any equipment and shoot anti-tank mines and dynamite.
