Rhodospirillaceae

Rhodospirillaceae (lat.) - a family of bacteria from the type of proteobacteria . Most of them are purple nonsulfur bacteria that receive energy through photosynthesis ; Initially, all purple non-sulfur bacteria were included in this family [2] [3] .

Typically, these bacteria are found in anaerobic aquatic habitats, such as dirt and stagnant water, although they can survive in normal atmospheric conditions [2] .

The family also includes the genus Magnetospirillum , whose representatives contain tiny chains of magnetite [2] . This allows them to navigate relative to the Earth’s magnetic field and sink to the bottom of the reservoir, where the oxygen concentration is low ( magnetotaxis ). Similar chains of magnetite were found in Martian meteorites , which can be considered evidence of the existence of life there [4] .
