Biography

As a child, Jennings was fond of basketball and football , and also took part in shot put competitions. Jennings father played basketball professionally.

Prior to boxing, Jennings worked as a mechanic.

Amateur career

In the amateur ring, Bryant had only 17 fights. At 13 won. He participated in two tournaments - in the state championship and the US championship β€œ golden gloves ”, in both he took second place, losing in both finals to Lenroy Thompson.

Professional career

In the professional ring, Bryant made his debut in February 2010 .

He held 11 rating matches with little-known rivals, and on January 21, 2012 he won on points of an undefeated compatriot, Maurice Byrom (13-0-1), and won the Pennsylvania state title. The fight with Byrom was quite difficult for Jennings, as Bryant found out about the opponent and the date of the fight less than a week before the fight.

In March 2012 . Jennings entered the ring with the former WBO world champion , Belarus Sergey Lyakhovich (25-4). The fight started equally, but from the second half of the match, Jennings began to pressure the Belarusians, and in the interval between the 9th and 10th rounds. The angle of the Belarusian took off his boxer. Jennings ahead of schedule defeated the eminent rival [1] .

May 16, 2012 won the title of US champion according to USBA, defeating compatriot Steve Collins (25-1-1) [2] . In September 2012 , Jennings knocked out in the first round of Chris Koval (25-9).

On December 8, 2012 , Jennings entered the ring with an experienced boxer from Tong , Bowie Tupow (22-2). The fight was one of the hardest in the career of an American. In the third round, Jennings was knocked down, but the fall was not caused by a blow, but by the fact that Jennings slipped, and the blow fell casually on the dark. The referee did not record a knockdown. The entire third round of Tupou attacked very aggressively. In the fourth, Jennings again took the initiative, and in the fifth round a long series knocked out Tupou [3] .

December 27, 2012 was awarded the Prospect of the Year Prize according to the reputable magazine Sports Illustrated . For more than six months, Jennings did not enter the ring.

Fight with Andrei Fedosov

In June 2013 , Bryant met with a strong Russian boxer, Andrei Fedosov . Fedosov withstood the attacks of Jennings, but Bryant began to attack the Russians with emphasis. Fedosov kept his feet despite the most powerful missed shots. Due to a hematoma above Fedosov’s eye, the fight had to be stopped. Jennings was awarded the victory by technical knockout, although Fedosov was on his feet and was not shocked in the battle. Later, Jennings singled out Fedosov as the strongest boxer with the best chin in heavy weight [4] [5] .

The Fight with Arthur Stud

On January 25, 2014, Jennings entered the ring with an undefeated young Polish prospect, Arthur Shpilka (18-0) . The hairpin suggested that Jennings replace the Polish boxer Mariusz Wach, who refused to fight with the American, calling him to battle with messages on Twitter. At the preparation stage, Shpilka repeatedly stated to Polish fans that he had no doubt in victory.

The first rounds turned out to be relatively equal, although the American looked more confident, not trying to force events and inflict great damage on the opponent. In the sixth round, Hairpin missed a hit in the solar plexus, and dropped to his knee. The pole was counted by a knockdown. After that, the battle became almost one-sided. In the tenth round, Shpilka, inferior in points, began to act more openly, trying to knock out the American. As a result, he missed the exact left side into the head, and fell onto the ropes. The referee counted the knockdown. The hairpin looked shocked, and could not answer Jennings trying to finish it off. Seeing this, the referee stopped the bout. Jennings defeated by technical knockout, inflicting Spielke's first career loss

Challenger battle with Mike Perez

On July 26, 2014, a battle was fought for the status of a mandatory challenger, between undefeated prospectuses Bryant Jennings and Cuban Mike Perez . The fight was held at a low pace and lasted all the planned 12 rounds. After the first 6 rounds, Perez was the leader on the cards of all the judges. However, in the second half of the battle, boxers began to act more at close range and more often enter the clinch. Rounds of the second half of the meeting took place with more power struggle. Jennings acted more successfully, changing the picture of the fight in his favor. In the 12th round, the referee took a point from the Cuban, for a blow after the stop command. In this regard, at the end of the match, the coach of Peres - Adam Booth made a complaint to him. As it turned out, from the announcement of the judicial verdict, it was the point taken that created the minimal advantage of the American on the card of one of the judges: 114-113, which decided the outcome of the battle in his favor. Jennings won the split decision. [6] Perez did not agree with this, considering that he had won the battle.

Championship fight with Wladimir Klitschko

In mid-2014, Bryant Jennings defeated a contender for the right to fight WBC World Champion Bermaine Steven. And the managers of Wladimir Klitschko focused on negotiating a fight exclusively with Bryant Jennings [108] [109] . January 17, 2015 it became known that the American heavyweight Bryant Jennings signed a contract for the fight with Wladimir Klitschko. The fight is scheduled for April 25, 2015 and will take place at the Barclays Center sports complex in New York [110] . If Klitschko wins the Jennings fight, then the next Klitschko fight will already be with Deontay Wilder - the current WBC world champion. Wladimir Klitschko lacks the WBC world title to become the absolute world champion in all versions, and he is focused on achieving this title [111] . World champion in versions of IBF, WBA, WBO, IBO and The Ring Magazine, Vladimir Klitschko (64-3, 53 KOs) successfully defended his titles in a duel with American challenger Bryant Jennings.

The Fight With Louis Ortiz

On December 19, 2015, Bryant Jennings fought for the WBA interim world champion title with Cuban Louis Ortiz. From the first round, Ortiz showed a clear advantage in striking power and, time after time, got his opponent with strong blows. At the same time, Jennings showed that he can recover very quickly and works better near. In the third round, Ortiz shocked Jennings, but failed to build on his success.

Further, the fight became calmer and more even, until in the seventh round Ortiz sent Jennings to the floor of the ring with the strongest uppercut. The American got up, but missed a few more powerful blows and the battle was stopped.

Return

On August 19, 2017, Bryant Jennings resumed his career after two and a half years of inactivity, making his debut under the banner of the promotion company Top Rank. Jennings rival became a little-known compatriot Daniel Martz (15-4-1, 12 KOs), and already the starting round killed all hopes for a competitive confrontation. The difference in class was too great, and in the second three-minute period, after Martz went to the third knockdown, the referee stopped the match.

Fight with Alexander Dmitrienko

On August 18, 2018, he met with an experienced German boxer Alexander Dimitrenko (41-3) . In round 4, Dimitrenko knocked out Jennings. But in the next round, Jennings already slightly increased the density of the battle and forced Dimitrenk to switch to survival mode - the German extinguished almost every attack by a clinch. In the 7th round, Dimitrenko began to work on counterattacks and outplayed the current sweeping American. In round 8, Dmitrienko was knocked down twice. In the 9th round, the fight ended - Dimitrenko missed the uppercut and again appeared on the canvas, after which the referee stopped the fight [7] .
