Ortiz Suarez, Isan Reynaldo

Isan Reynaldo Ortiz Suarez ( Spanish: Isam Reynaldo Ortiz Suárez ; born March 30, 1985 , Guantanamo ) - Cuban chess player , grandmaster ( 2011 ). He is a three-time Cuban Chess Champion [1] .

Chess career

One of his first excursions to the FIDE rated tournament took place at the Cuban National Junior Championship in 2002 , shortly after his seventeenth birthday, when he appeared on the leaderboard.

Ortiz won the Holguin Province Championship in November 2002 and was the first in 2006 . He was awarded the title of Grandmaster in 2011 . Ortiz Suarez won the Cuban Chess Cup in 2013 , 2014 [2] and 2015 .

Ortiz Suarez qualified for the 2011 World Chess Cup as part of the American Continental Championship 2011 , but lost his first round match to the young Russian super grandmaster Jan Nepomnyashchy [3] .

He finished second in the American Continental Chess Championship in 2013 [4] . At the 2013 World Chess Cup, he defeated Judit Polgar in the first round with a score of 1.5-0.5, and then lost to the French grandmaster Maxim Vachier-Lagrave in the second round, and therefore was excluded from the competition.

Ortiz Suarez played for Cuba at the 2012 and 2014 Chess Olympiads , as well as at the 2015 World Chess Team Championship . In the 2014 Chess Olympiad , he won a silver medal on board four due to his performance of 2766 [5] after five wins, two draws and a loss [6] .

His results at the American Continental Championship in 2014 allowed him to play at the 2015 World Chess Cup, where he met again and lost to Maxim Vashye-Lagrava , this time in the first round and therefore was expelled from the Cup [3] .
