In his youth, he was an adherent of encyclopedists , later became a zealous Catholic and a legitimist, and enthusiastically welcomed the return of the Bourbons . In 1821, he founded “L'Étoile” (from 1827 - “ Gazette de France ”), in which he later defended the legitimist principles with great persistence against the July government than brought on more than 60 lawsuits.
In 1846, his wife was elected to the chamber and in a meeting on February 24, 1848, in vain, in the interests of legitimism, he demanded an appeal to the people. After the February revolution, retired from the political arena. Widowed in 1835 , his wife was ordained priest .
